You can even get maple syrup flavoured bacon. I kid you not.
But I was shocked to discover that you can get ‘bacon chocolate chip cookies’ in a trendy downtown restaurant.
I mean really – bacon flavoured cookies. How does that sort of thing ever get past the planning stages?
I was out with a pal cruising for a different location for desert (that’s right people, two locations for dinner – that’s just how we roll). And we nipped in to see what they had… it was reasonably late and we had to wait a while to be seated.
When our server came over we quizzed him about desert. He didn’t look too impressed and whispered it wasn’t really their strength. Boy, was he not kidding. There was the classic (read dull) stuff and then this just out and out weird bacon thing. We all stood there for a moment considering how wrong it was.
Have you ever tried it? I ask.
He looks at me like I’m an idiot and says with great emphasis – NO!
Right then, if the wait staff won’t try it when it’s free it can’t be good. And anyway I’m veggie and my pals Muslim. No bacon for us.
So we swept out. Pausing only to get this snap for you gentle reader. Because I love you. And because bacon in baked goods is just plain wrong.
